MATHCOUNTS is a math enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes math achievement by 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The program stimulates student interest by making math achievement as challenging, exciting, and prestigious as school sports.

In Minnesota, the program is coordinated by members of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers, who work closely with teachers.

Each fall MATHCOUNTS distributes its free School Handbook and coaching materials to schools throughout Minnesota. Using these materials, teachers and volunteers coach student "mathletes," either as part of in-class instruction or as an extracurricular activity such as a math club.

Students compete as teams or as individuals in local meets in February and winners progress to the state contest in March. The top four scorers in the state competition earn an all-expense-paid trip to the National Finals in Washington, D.C.

Please take a few minutes to learn more about our program.
