In Minnesota, the program is coordinated by members of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers, who work closely with teachers.
Each fall MATHCOUNTS distributes its free School Handbook and coaching materials to schools throughout Minnesota. Using these materials, teachers and volunteers coach student "mathletes," either as part of in-class instruction or as an extracurricular activity such as a math club.
Students compete as teams or as individuals in local meets in February and winners progress to the state contest in March. The top four scorers in the state competition earn an all-expense-paid trip to the National Finals in Washington, D.C.
Please take a few minutes to learn more about our program.

MATHCOUNTS has a new brochure explaining the program:

Steve Strauss, long-time Minnesota MATHCOUNTS volunteer and task force member, was one of 25 employees and retirees from across the U.S. recognized by 3M for giving their time and talents to building strong communities. The 3M Foundation is donating $1,000 to Minnesota MATHCOUNTS as part of Steve's award.
“We are proud to recognize our most outstanding volunteers with the 3M Community Volunteer Award,” said Alex Cirillo, 3M staff vice president, Community Affairs.
In addition to the $1,000 donation, and as part of the 3M Volunteer Match, 3M will donate $200 to a non-profit organization at which the awardee volunteers more than 25 hours per year.
