Part I: Continuing Education Seminar (1.5 PDHs)


Presentation: Public Works and Engineering During Disasters


The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is designated as the primary agency for emergency support function #3, (public works and engineering) for all response and recovery-related activities under the National Response Framework. ESF3 is structured to provide public works and engineering related support for the changing requirements of domestic incident management, including preparedness, prevention, response, recovery and mitigation actions.


Attendees at this seminar will learn about:


  • USACE involvement during the historic disasters of 2017
  • USACE roles and missions in disaster response and recovery
  • Both typical and unique USACE mission assignments
  • Personal experiences during disaster response

Presenter: Kelli Ann Phillips, PMP is currently a project manager for the USACE, St Paul District and serves as an assistant team lead for the national ESF3 cadre. She has responded to numerous disasters in various roles throughout her 18 year career, including Hurricanes Katrina, Gustav, Harvey, Irma, Maria and Superstorm Sandy. Kelli earned her B.S. in Ecology from Iowa State University. 


Part II: Speed Networking Social


Back by popular demand, this annual event is a great opportunity to meet fellow MnSPE members, others in the industry and is an opportunity for professionals and students to connect.


Who: Young engineers, engineering students and industry professionals - All are invited! This event is free for young engineers and engineering students, sponsored by the MnSPE Young Engineers Committee.


What:  MnSPE's popular speed networking immediately following a seminar. You can't go wrong with PDHs followed by beverages.


Why: This popular event focuses on engineering industry professionals and engineering students connecting in a relaxed setting.  Enter for your chance to win an Amazon gift card!
